About Chef Gan Wei Liong

Chef Gan Wei Liong is a Malaysian Chinese chef whose culinary journey has been shaped by the rich multicultural flavours of his upbringing. Growing up in Malaysia, he was surrounded by Malay, Chinese, Indian, and regional cooking traditions, where family kitchens became his first classroom and food became a language of love, culture, and celebration.

He began his professional culinary career in Penang in 2003. Over the past 18 years, his craft has evolved from mastering classical techniques to creating refined dishes that balance tradition with innovation.
Chef Gan’s experience spans Malaysia, Singapore, the Middle East, and Thailand, giving him a broad perspective on cross-cultural cuisine. Since joining SAii Laguna Phuket in 2021, he has progressed from Asian Chef to Executive Sous Chef, and now serves as Executive Chef as of May 2025. His culinary philosophy is rooted in authenticity, thoughtful technique, and memorable dining experiences that reflect both global influence and local inspiration.
